SQL Server Data File Extensions

It is a basic concept, but an important one, the extensions we use on our data and log files don't matter to SQL Server, but they DO matter to the next DBA who won't appreciate it that we've decided to use 'BAK' as the extension for our database files. We'll cover that plus a quick tour of adding a secondary data file and how to examine all the files for a database using the system catalog.

You could have also shown that when you attach a database file, the Attach Databases wizard actually looks for MDF files by default. Yet another reason to name your (primary) database files with the default (MDF) file extension. Why didn't you discuss the file extensions of the backup files?

I am amazed almost daily how many DBAs don't know the basics. I am glad you are presenting a variety of info at different levels.
