Parameterizing the Execute SQL Task in SSIS

It's easy enough to execute a statement using the Execute SQL Task in SSIS, but what about when you need that value to be conditional - maybe it needs to be based on the current date? You need a parameterized statement and SSIS has it's own way of doing it. Climb the learning curve a little faster with the help of SQL MVP Brian Knight as he does a 5 minute introduction to this feature.

it is very good. but i can not see proparly. because your screen is small.so can make large screen for us. if it is possibal. thanks

Tatyana on 1/4/2009
Brain, why does it feel like your speach is a bit slow? maybe you could please speak a little faster?

Brian Knight on 1/5/2009
Wow, I've never been told I speak too slow before :). Generally, just the opposite. I've been trying to address the comments about me speaking too fast and may've over compensated in this video.

AA7AB8CA57 on 1/13/2009
It was a little hard to read until presenter zoomed in.

Lonnie Meinke on 1/13/2009
A little to fast moving...perhaps just to advanced for me.

Julie on 1/13/2009
I thought at times you spoke a little fast but it was understandable. Good video!

Rob on 1/13/2009
I didn't see how the values ofthe parameters were being set.

Joseph on 1/13/2009
Information is good. Speaker is speaking too fast and moving through the demonstration way too fast.

Leonard Peoples on 1/13/2009
Increase the volume on your videos please. It's very hard to hear the instructors. They are very helpful though. Thanks...

Kamen Angelov on 1/13/2009
bad speaker

Stephanie Brown on 1/13/2009
Talking is pretty fast, and the screen is so small it's difficult to see the text on the example.

Peter Kennedy on 1/13/2009
It would be great to see a video about how to configure OUTPUT parameters in the Execute SQL Task (i.e. using a S-Proc with an output parameter) - I have never been able to get an output parameter to work on this task, and always must resort to changing the s-proc and using a Result-Set to obtain return values :).

raghu on 1/13/2009
great

Mike Mastro on 1/14/2009
Good info! Keep up the good work.

Jon on 1/14/2009
Very clear. Thanks for the information!

raghu on 1/15/2009
needs to be more clear

Satish on 1/20/2009
very good. the style of explanation and approach is good.

sharon on 1/21/2009
need more detail of the environment in the demonstration

Mickey on 1/25/2009
easy clear examples! THanks!

Robert Cain on 1/29/2009
Really good video. I most appreciated the debugging and diagnostic techniques. It's nice to see how to determine what went wrong since most of us won't get it right on the first try.

Leigh Anne on 2/5/2009
I've watched this one several times. I know leaving the errors in is supposed to help us diagnose errors of our own in the future, but I found it really confusing. I would have rather seen it go all the way through once correctly and then go back and introduce the errors. I appreciate the video, though! I learned a lot!

Venkata Taduri on 2/10/2009
Great.

Lionel Alva on 2/12/2009
Good information on using parameterized execute sql task.

Rick on 2/24/2009
I have to watch it again.

Peri on 3/3/2009
Would love to see videos for longer, but heck, cannot complain like it says on the tin "Jumpstart" thanks guys!

Jerry Higgins on 4/9/2009
It was very good. Screen needs to be bigger. I can't believe someone said you talked too slow.

Flavio Cortes on 5/9/2009
Great video, I would like to seee practical examples, real life

Deborah Furse on 5/19/2009
I am not sure that this helped me. I need to check a flag in a control table and if the control flag is set to N then I can contin ue with the rest of the SSIS package processing. If it is not set to N then I want the Package to stop running. I don't think that this explained that to me although I thought the video was good.

surya kiran on 5/21/2009

Marsaline on 8/20/2009
Good video but too fast

Abhishek on 8/29/2009

Too quick. Can I have the steps to insert parameters to my SSIS packages ? my mail is : nira@mod.gov.il Thank you, Nira

Great explanation about data types!

bhoopal on 10/26/2009
it's good.

Tom Tait on 10/28/2009
The part about assigning the value of the variables could have been better explained. Still a great video though. No complaints.

murshitha21 on 10/30/2009
Great video and I liked the emphasis put on data type error

Jeff Bastian on 11/18/2009
Short and Sweet. I especially liked the data type troubleshooting. I ran into the same issues when creating my task for the first time. Thanks a lot.
